What it is

Leadership is a skill you can build

Some of leadership comes naturally; the rest can be learned and practised. This 360° shows where you are strong and where to grow, as the people you work with experience it, and gives you a benchmark to measure your progress against.

It shows you

  • Your strengths across eight leadership competencies
  • How others experience your leadership
  • Blind spots a self-assessment misses
  • A benchmark to track your progress

It is not

  • A performance review
  • A test of whether you are a leader
  • A fixed verdict: every competency can be developed
  • The end of the conversation

The eight competencies

Eight competencies of exceptional leaders

You and the people around you rate each one, so you see both views side by side.

  • Communication

    Clear messages, open ears

How clearly you get your message across, and how well you listen and adjust.

Ask yourself: do people hear what I mean?

  • Decision-making

    Weighing the options

How carefully you weigh options, risks and outcomes before choosing the best way forward.

Ask yourself: do I decide on facts or on habit?

  • Delegation

    Room to deliver

How much freedom you give people to decide how the work gets done, and to learn from mistakes.

Ask yourself: do I hand over the how, not just the task?

  • Emotional Intelligence

    Reading the room

How well you recognise and use your own feelings and other people’s.

Ask yourself: do I notice how my mood affects the team?

  • Managing Change

    Leading through change

How well you plan for change and steer yourself and others through it.

Ask yourself: do I bring people with me?

  • Setting Goals and Standards

    Clear targets

How well you set measurable goals and standards, and build commitment to them.

Ask yourself: does everyone know what good looks like?

  • Team Building

    Ownership

How well you trust, coach and guide people so they own their work and its results.

Ask yourself: do people own the outcome?

  • Visualising the Future

    A vision worth following

How well you think ahead and describe a future people want to work towards.

Ask yourself: can my team describe where we are going?

How it works

Four steps from feedback to growth

The feedback only pays off when it turns into a plan you act on.

  1. 1 Choose your raters Pick people who see you lead: your manager, a few peers and members of your team.
  2. 2 Everyone answers You and your raters answer the same questions about the eight competencies.
  3. 3 Get your report See your view and theirs side by side, competency by competency.
  4. 4 Build your plan Choose what to work on first and act on it. A coach can take you through it.

What the feedback can show

  • Your strengths and leadership habits
  • Where to grow next
  • How you communicate, formally and informally
  • How you handle pressure and setbacks
  • How well you listen
  • How you give and receive feedback
  • How you motivate and inspire
  • How you plan, decide and solve problems

FAQ

Questions about Leadership Effectiveness 360°

How is a 360° different from a self-assessment?

A self-assessment shows only how you see yourself. A 360° adds how the people you lead and work with experience your leadership.

Who should give feedback?

People who see you lead: usually your manager, a few peers and the people who report to you. Choose people who will be honest.

Is it a performance review?

No. It is for your development. Keeping it apart from pay and appraisal decisions makes honest feedback more likely.

Can I take it again later?

Yes. Taking it again after a period of coaching shows how far you have come.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how many leaders are being assessed. Ask us and we will give you a clear fee.
