Especially for you. You don’t need to be an accountant to master your numbers. Everything is explained in plain language, step by step, with no jargon left unexplained.
How to master the numbers of any business
You don’t need to be an accountant to master your numbers
A half-day, hands-on workshop that turns your profit and loss, cash flow and break-even into decisions you can make with confidence: where the cash goes, what each sale really earns, and how to grow profit, not just sales.
Come on your own, bring your partner or bookkeeper, or ask for a FinanceRICH just for your team.
Sound familiar?
Busy all year. So where’s the money?
Sales are up, the team is flat out, and the bank balance still keeps you awake. Most owners run the business on the bank balance and a once-a-year conversation with the CA. Too many can’t make a decision because they simply don’t have the information.
It isn’t a sales problem. It’s a numbers problem, and numbers can be learned.
- We made a profit. So why is there no cash?
- I’ll know how we did when the CA files the returns.
- If we just sell more, it’ll sort itself out.
- Our prices? Whatever the competition charges.
Where the money leaks
- Profit on paper, nothing in the bank
- Customers paying in 60, 90, 120 days
- Discounts to win the order
- No idea of the break-even
- Numbers seen once a year
- Stock gathering dust
Money mastery
Cash is a fact. Profit is a theory.
A profitable business can still run out of money. Three ideas run through the whole workshop, and they change how you look at every rupee.
- 01Cash is a fact. Profit is a theory.Profit on paper doesn’t pay salaries or suppliers. Cash in the bank does, so you need to know both.
- 02Profit is the route map. Cash is the destination.Your numbers are the language your business speaks. Learn it and it tells you where to go next.
- 03What gets measured gets managed.Last year’s accounts tell you where you’ve been. A few numbers watched every week tell you where you’re going.
Your numbers, in a minute
Three numbers most owners have never worked out
A taste of the workshop. Put in your own figures, roughly is fine, and see your cash gap, your break-even and what a discount really costs. Your numbers stay on this page.
How long is your money away?
From the day you pay your supplier to the day your customer pays you, the business is funding the sale. That stretch is your cash gap.
- Your cash gap
- 90 days
- Cash tied up, roughly
- ₹30 lakh
A rough guide: about a day’s sales tied up for every day of gap. The workshop shows 15 ways to shorten it, from deposits up front to how you buy stock.
What do you have to sell before you make a rupee?
Your break-even: the sales that cover your fixed costs and the profit you want, at your gross margin.
Break-even = ( fixed costs + profit ) ÷ gross margin
- Sales you need a month
- ₹10,00,000
- That’s a week
- ₹2,30,769
Below this line you’re paying to stay open. In the workshop you work out your real gross margin and fixed costs, line by line.
What does a “small” discount really cost?
A discount comes straight out of your gross profit. A price rise goes straight into it.
- Gross profit after the discount
- −25%
- Extra sales needed just to stand still
- +33%
- Gross profit after the price rise
- +25%
After the price rise you could sell 20% fewer and still make the same gross profit.
Your figures, your arithmetic: an illustration of the maths, not financial, tax or accounting advice.

- Profit versus cashWhy a profitable business can still run dry.
- Your cash gapAnd 15 ways to shorten it.
- Fixed and variable costsWhich ones grow with sales, and which don’t.
- Your break-even numberThe sales you need before you make a rupee.

Margin mastery
Where every rupee of a sale goes
Four lines explain most of the profit and loss. Once you see them, you know which lever to pull: price, costs or volume.
- Sales Everything you invoice.
- Variable costs Spent because you made a sale: stock, materials, commission.
- Gross profit What each sale leaves you to run the business.
- Fixed costs Spent whether or not you sell: rent, salaries, loans.
- Net profit What’s left. The number that grows your business.
An illustration, not a benchmark. In the workshop you put your own numbers through the same four lines, and find your break-even.
Your business’s vital signs
Check the pulse every week
A doctor doesn’t wait a year to take your pulse. Five financial vital signs, plus the activity and customer numbers behind them, tell you how healthy the business is right now.
